Urban air pollution remains one of the most persistent environmental health challenges of the 21st century, with disproportionate effects on vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and low-income communities. Rapid industrialization, vehicular emissions, and poor urban planning have intensified exposure to particulate matter (PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀), nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds pollutants known to contribute to chronic respiratory diseases and reduced life expectancy. From a broader perspective, the assessment of urban air pollution exposure involves understanding both ambient and household sources, as well as microenvironmental variations influenced by socioeconomic and infrastructural disparities. Recent studies emphasize that exposure pathways extend beyond outdoor concentrations, encompassing indoor infiltration, occupational hazards, and personal activity patterns that modulate inhaled pollutant doses. Advances in satellite remote sensing, sensor-based monitoring, and geospatial modeling have enabled more precise quantification of spatiotemporal exposure gradients across urban neighborhoods. When integrated with epidemiological data, these models reveal a strong correlation between long-term pollutant exposure and respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. The study further narrows its focus on vulnerable populations, exploring how social determinants housing quality, healthcare access, and environmental justice inequalities magnify exposure-related health burdens. It underscores the necessity for policy frameworks that integrate urban planning, public health surveillance, and technological innovation to mitigate risks. Ultimately, evaluating urban air pollution exposure pathways through interdisciplinary and equity-centered approaches provides essential insights for designing sustainable, health-resilient cities capable of protecting their most at-risk residents.
