The informal sector plays a pivotal role in generating employment opportunities for both urban and rural unskilled labourers, with street vending constituting a significant component of this sector. Street vendors not only contribute to self-employment but also ensure the availability of goods and services at affordable prices, particularly benefiting economically marginalized populations. Additionally, they function as vital distribution channels for products originating from the informal economy. This study explores the dynamics of street vending in India, with a particular focus on the state of Telangana. Relying primarily on secondary data sources, including academic literature and government reports. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of street vendors in Hyderabad and Telangana. In doing so, it highlights the broader relevance of street vending within India’s informal urban economy.
